Voice over Internet Protocol is a system that combines hardware and software to enable people to use the Internet to transmit telephone calls in place of traditional circuit telephony. VoIP systems typically offer users full feature packages for a fixed price at significantly less cost than other phone services.  Initially, the quality of VoIP calls was inferior to those of traditional carriers but that has changed and VoIP voice quality is equal to other services. Insight Computing uses a VoIP system.  Note: for the VoIP service to work, there must be an internet connection.
