Based upon a referral Insight Computing received a request from the Managing Partner of a local law firm to analyze the work of its current I.T. service provider, a one man company, who was less than affectionately nicknamed “The Virus” by the firm’s employees.  

The firm was justified in being concerned. The firm’s Firewall was found to be wide-open. The analysis determined that antivirus software was 3 years out of date and each computer contained different antivirus software. The automated Back-up system was not running. The firm’s MS Exchange Server was missing 120 updates.

Insight was asked to come up with cost-effective solutions to rectify the discovered problems.  A budget was provided and Insight created a plan to move the client from the in-house Exchange Server to a Hosted Exchange service which handled all server updates, maintained responsibility for the Firewall and antivirus protection, and managed the data Back-up process. Besides getting the security and protection at a fraction of the cost of maintaining its own server, the firm now has the flexibility, along with system security,   to access the system from anywhere through the Internet.

The move to a Hosted Exchange service opened the door to significant additional cost savings. Insight Computing helped the firm design and implement a plan to relocate from overly expensive, central office environment, which - based upon current staffing levels - was far larger than necessary. The firm now has a much smaller office and two home offices for support staff. The Partner has estimated that being able to create this distributed work environment has resulted in a 90% reduction in monthly lease expense.
